Newton Aycliffe, United Kingdom

Commercial

Seeking a way to reduce their energy costs and carbon footprint in the UK, Hitachi approached Photon Energy for their expertise and ideas in the use of solar PV on redundant rooftop space.

Photon Energy brought in leading manufacturer Trina Solar, with whom they had previously worked extensively. Both companies worked together to complete the installation in Newton Aycliffe. It was decided to use monocrystalline Honey M 265W modules instead of the 250W modules originally planned, thus resulting in a BOS saving of 100kW.
This commercial PV solution has 100% on site consumption and has resulted in improved efficiency and decreased costs as anticipated, generating 850MWh of clean energy per year.

The Honey M products, having set two performance world records, use an innovative cell technology. They can generate higher yields than others, withstand high snow and wind loads, and quality control exceeds international industry standards. Performing better under low light conditions, the modules have consistent cell colouring and a black frame. Optionally, the Trinasmart output optimiser provides system monitoring and improves yield by up to 20%.
