Trina Solar firmly committed to emerging PV market in South Africa

Company expands local footprint and participates in Power & Electricity World Africa

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, 7th March 2014 - Trina Solar Limited (“Trina Solar” or “the Company”), a global leader in photovoltaic modules, solutions, and services, has expanded its operations and local footprint in South Africa in order to capture the market potential for PV in this emerging growth region. The company will also be exhibiting at the upcoming Power & Electricity World Africa Show 2014, as well as bring its expertise to the exhibition’s conference.

Trina Solar is currently planning to greatly enhance its commitment to South African markets and opportunities, in addition to the local sales team already in place. “The major shift towards the commercial and residential rooftop solar market, as opposed to the previous solar market focus on mega projects, has created opportunity for local companies and organizations to see the kind of innovation that can be achieved within this area,” says Ben Hill, President of Trina Solar Europe and Africa. Since the company’s arrival in Southern Africa in 2010, Trina Solar has solidified its reputation as a leader in rooftop installations, having completed a number of significant projects in a variety of regions.

With Africa’s positioning as one of the world’s most attractive emerging solar energy markets, all eyes are on the upcoming Solar Show Africa exposition, which is part of Power & Electricity World Africa and is set to take place in Sandton, Johannesburg on 11 and 12 March 2014. Trina Solar will be exhibiting innovative products and solutions at its booth (N° K6), with a focus on rooftop installations, as well as hybrid solutions targeted at the region’s larger mines. Products on display will include a range of high performance PV modules and solar water pump systems in addition to the Trina Home Off-Grid System, one of the most recently launched products. The Trina Solar exhibition booth will feature an interactive sales tour where users will be able to input their specific needs and see real-time Trina Solar solutions.

Trina Solar’s Sales Manager for Africa Warren Pollard will also be participating as an expert speaker during the conference, contributing his valuable expertise to the line-up of top industry and government representatives.

With an expected attendance of over 4,500 attendees, the Power & Electricity World Africa Show 2014 will host a range of industry players, from local and international developers to government representatives, as well as both large and small energy users. “As the Eskom rebates program has now passed, financing is a big hurdle for a lot of companies here. Events like this give local banks and finance institutions much needed reassurance and encouragement when it comes to investing in the industry. Based on the current high rate evolution and activity within the African solar arena, we are expecting to share hugely valuable insights and knowledge, which will inform a vast range of projects and strategies going forward,” Hill concludes.
