Trinasolar, a global leader in smart solar solutions, has announced that its latest n-type rooftop module, Vertex S+ Shield, has successfully passed the HW4 hail test, simulating hailstones with a diameter of 40 mm at high velocity — among the most demanding standards for PV modules in Europe.
The module also achieved the A+A fire safety classification under the IEC 61730 standard, highlighting its robust flame spread resistance for residential and commercial rooftop use.
Now in mass production, the Vertex S+ Shield is poised to become one of the most advanced and resilient products available for Europe’s distributed solar market.
Future-Proofing Rooftop Projects with HW4 Hail Resistance
While the HW4 hail test is not yet mandatory in Switzerland, it is widely expected to become a legal or insurance-driven requirement in the coming years. By achieving HW4 certification now, Trinasolar positions itself — and its customers — ahead of evolving regulations.
Despite using a lighter dual-glass structure (2.5 mm + 2.0 mm) compared to many competitors, the Vertex S+ Shield passed the test with full marks. This is a clear demonstration of the engineering quality and material resilience underpinning Trina’s product design. It ensures peace of mind for rooftop PV projects in hail-prone regions, particularly in Switzerland, northern Italy, southern Germany, and Austria.
“Extreme weather is no longer a rarity in Europe. For installers and developers, hail resistance is becoming a top priority,” said Gonzalo de la Viña, President Trinasolar Europe and Latin America. “With Vertex S+ Shield, we deliver the perfect solution that is both future-proof and field-proven.”
Certified for Fire Safety: Class A+A Under IEC 61730
In addition to hail protection, the Vertex S+ Shield has achieved fire safety certification Class A+A — the highest level under IEC 61730. This means the module meets stringent standards for flame spread resistance and system safety, a critical consideration for residential and commercial buildings.
Combined with Trina’s longstanding focus on product safety, reliability, and compliance, this certification adds another layer of value for customers seeking to meet insurance, permitting, and bankability requirements.
Ready for Market Across Europe
Mass production of the Vertex S+ Shield module is already underway, with distribution channels open across the DACH region and other European markets.
Designed for residential and commercial rooftop applications, the module features high-efficiency n-type i-TOPCon cells, robust dual-glass construction, and Trina’s proven Vertex platform architecture — delivering long-term performance, visual appeal, and peace of mind.
Specifically engineered for rooftops, the module features:
-
High-efficiency n-type i-TOPCon cells for greater yield
-
Light, robust dual-glass construction for durability and easy installation
-
Elegant aesthetics with black frame, ideal for residential environments
-
Improved mechanical load capabilities, ideal for harsher conditions
The product will be available through Trina’s European distribution partners and is already generating interest from leading installers and distributors in the DACH region and beyond.
A Commitment to Quality, Safety, and Market Alignment
With hail and fire risks on the rise and rooftop safety under greater scrutiny, Trinasolar continues to lead the market by anticipating trends and aligning its product roadmap with regional needs and future regulations.
“With the Vertex S+ Shield, we’ve combined state-of-the-art innovation and durability in a sleek rooftop module that anticipates future regulatory standards,” said Gonzalo de la Viña.
“These certifications confirm its readiness for the most demanding European conditions — and reflect Trina’s broader commitment to quality, sustainability, and long-term customer value.”
