India’s Solar Mission:

Install 100 GW by 2022 to become one of the largest Green Energy Producer in the world

In 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a massive target of achieving 100 GW of installed solar capacity by the year 2022. The target is principally comprised of 40 GW Rooftop and 60 GW through Large and Medium Scale Grid Connected Solar Power Projects. With this ambitious target, India will become one of the largest Green Energy producers in the world, surpassing several developed countries.

40 GW Rooftop Solar: Next Blue Ocean

Rooftop solar market in India has grown at annual rate of 96% between 2012 and 2016 (Source: BTI).
Central government has allocated 40GW rooftop solar targets to all states based on their power consumption.
Government provides subsidy to drive installations in the residential segment and public buildings, such as MNRE and SECI.
Net-metering is a key policy driver and it is now in place in almost all states of India.
