January 20 – Trina Storage, the global energy storage solutions provider and business unit of Trinasolar, has successfully carried out a comprehensive fire safety test of its proprietary Elementa 2 Pro system. Supervised by fire engineering consultancy Hiller, with certification subsequently provided by TÜV Rheinland, the test has proven the system's enclosure integrity, fire isolation, resistant materials and reliability of critical systems under extreme fire conditions.

The test was conducted in Hebei province, China, at an open site suitable for large-scale fire testing. It was completed in accordance with the latest international fire safety standards, including CSA/ANSI C800-2025, NFPA 855-2026, and UL 9540A (November 2025). The test exceeded standard requirements, with Trina Storage reducing the spacing between containers to just 10 centimeters, in order to create a more severe thermal challenge to assess system-level safety margins.

During the test, the initiation container was subjected to flames exceeding 1,300°C, simulating an extreme fire scenario. The container remained structurally intact with no collapse observed. Meanwhile, cells in adjacent containers remained far below critical safety limits with no thermal propagation occurring: cell temperatures reached a maximum of 43.9°C in back-to-back containers, 23.9°C in side-by-side containers, and 28.6°C in face-to-face containers. These temperatures are well under the cell venting points, surpassing UL 9540A acceptance criteria and outperforming typical industry benchmarks.

Throughout the test, the fire alarm in the initiation container continued operating until power was lost, confirming the robustness of the communication system under extreme conditions.
After the test, inspections showed that electrical cabinets in the initiation container were intact, with internal separation maintained by multi-layer isolation. Adjacent containers remained structurally sound and fully functional, while fire protection systems in adjacent containers maintained 100% availability. Module-level thermal management systems also remained operational, and cell charge/discharge performance was unaffected.
Gabriele Buccini, Head of Trina Storage Europe, said: “These results demonstrate that Elementa 2 Pro maintains strong system-level reliability and thermal isolation under severe fire conditions. By exceeding standard acceptance criteria, we wanted to demonstrate our engineering capability and leadership in safe energy storage system design, and are pleased the system passed the test with flying colours.”
