Rooftop solar could provide 40 percent of nation’s energy [Video]

As solar power continues to make great strides in generating clean, renewable energy for the country and the world, scientists have recently calculated how large the potential PV has yet to grow.

The Energy Department’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory did the math to figure out the suitability of urban rooftops hosting photovoltaic systems in 128 cities across the country, which represents roughly 23 percent of U.S. buildings. The analysts estimated the total U.S. technical potential for PV systems is 1,118 gigawatts of capacity and 1,432 terawatt-hours or annual energy generation. This equals roughly 39 percent of the country’s current electricity sales.

At Trina Solar, we’re dedicated to providing the most efficient and reliable solar panels for residential, commercial and utility-scale projects across the country and the world.
