One of Portugal's largest operational battery energy storage systems marks the beginning of Trina Storage's growing presence in the country's rapidly expanding storage market

Trina Storage, the energy storage business of Trinasolar, has announced the successful commissioning of its first battery energy storage project in Portugal, delivered in partnership with independent power producer (IPP) Prosolia Energy. The 15 MW / 60 MWh Albispark battery energy storage system, located in Castelo Branco, is integrated with an existing 34.4 MWp solar plant, making it one of the largest battery energy storage systems currently in operation in Portugal.

The project represents an important milestone for both companies. For Prosolia Energy, Albispark is its first international utility-scale battery storage [DF2.1]hybridization project, while for Trina Storage it marks the company's first commissioned battery storage installation in Portugal, supporting the country's transition towards a more flexible, renewable-based electricity system.

Under the project, Trina Storage supplied an integrated utility-scale battery energy storage solution, including Elementa battery cabinets, power conversion systems (PCS), medium-voltage skids, power plant controller (PPC) and commissioning services, delivering a complete solution designed to maximize renewable energy utilization while supporting grid flexibility.

Supporting Portugal's next phase of renewable integration
As Portugal continues to increase renewable generation, battery energy storage is becoming essential for improving grid stability, increasing renewable utilization and providing greater operational flexibility.

The Albispark project demonstrates how hybrid solar-plus-storage systems can enable renewable energy to be stored and dispatched when demand is highest, helping maximize the value of renewable generation while strengthening grid resilience.

Building a long-term presence in Portugal
The commissioning of Albispark marks the beginning of Trina Storage's expansion in Portugal. In addition to this project, the company is currently supporting several battery energy storage projects across the Portuguese market, reflecting growing demand for utility-scale storage as the country accelerates renewable energy deployment and grid modernization.

The project also forms part of Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), supporting the country's efforts to increase grid flexibility and accelerate renewable energy integration.
