TrinaTracker Powers 211MW Atacama Solar Project in Chile

November 4, 2025
A 211MW solar PV project in Chile's Atacama Desert, one of the most challenging environments on the planet, has been successfully connected to the grid with TrinaTracker's advanced solar tracking technology and comprehensive technical supports. Completed on schedule despite challenging site conditions of aridity, sandstorms, high salinity, and wide temperature fluctuations, the project showcases TrinaTracker's full capability through tailored engineering solutions and precise execution, combining global expertise with local service to deliver reliable performance under harsh conditions.

Engineering Designed for Extreme Conditions   The Atacama project required solutions customized to one of the world's harshest climates. TrinaTracker completed the detailed design for all 55,318 piles to ensure structural stability across complex terrain with significant elevation changes. The Vanguard 1P tracker system was reinforced with stronger structure elements and anti-aging materials, enabling it to withstand wind speeds of up to 140 km/h, daily temperature variations of up to 50°C, and continuous exposure to intense UV radiation.   To further guarantee long-term performance, TrinaTracker applied special anti-corrosion treatments to protect steel structures from high salinity conditions, maximizing the plant's operational lifespan. On sloped sections of the site, the use of customized pile designs and adaptive support reduced the need for heavy earthworks. This approach not only lowered construction costs for the customer but also safeguarded system reliability. Together, these measures enabled the project to be completed efficiently while ensuring lasting durability.   Global Standards, Local Commitment   This project demonstrates how TrinaTracker integrates global expertise with local capabilities to ensure consistent project execution. The engineering solutions were reinforced by TrinaTracker's R&D and Quality processes, combined with strong local execution in Chile. Structural and Wind Tunnel Testing validations were conducted at TrinaTracker's global R&D centers in accordance with U.S. ASTM standards, providing robust technical assurance to the project. All core materials were sourced from leading global manufacturers and verified through independent third-party testing to ensure compliance with stringent international quality requirements.   Building on this global foundation, local engineering teams worked on-site throughout the construction and commissioning phases, offering timely support and resolving any challenges as they arose. To further enhance field performance, a “Golden Row” model was implemented at the beginning of the construction, which enabled 4,418 trackers to pass acceptance in a single stage and set a benchmark for quality consistency.   On the other hand, by aligning fully with local labor and safety regulations, the project not only ensured all compliance but also generated new jobs and helped to develop solar expertise within the regional workforce.   A Reliable Partner for Challenging Environments   Reliability, even in the harshest environments, is our commitment,” said Álvaro García Maltrás, President of TrinaTracker: “The Atacama project demonstrates our capability to deliver consistent performance under extreme environmental conditions. By combining global expertise with a strong local presence, we provide fast and professional services built on proven experience. We will continue to innovate and deliver advanced solutions tailored to challenging projects, while strengthening global partnerships to further drive the growth of sustainable energy.”
