TrinaTracker strengthens its presence in Colombia by expanding terrain-adaptive capabilities with Vanguard 1P Terrain+

October 27, 2026
As solar energy continues to expand globally, projects are increasingly being developed across more challenging terrains, creating new demands for tracker design, engineering and construction.

Against this backdrop, TrinaTracker is expanding the application of its Vanguard 1P Terrain+ solution in Colombia, where topographical variations can require significant cut-and-fill works when conventional tracker configurations are used. With new projects incorporating Vanguard 1P Terrain+ already secured in the country, the technology is gaining traction as a solution for addressing the specific challenges posed by Colombia’s complex topographies.

Rather than extensively modifying the land to accommodate the tracker, Vanguard 1P Terrain+ enables the structure to better follow the natural profile of the site, adapting to undulating, concave and convex terrain. This approach can reduce earthworks and civil intervention while increasing design flexibility for projects developed across complex topographies.

Adapting solar technology to complex terrain

Built on TrinaTracker’s proven Vanguard 1P platform, Vanguard 1P Terrain+ represents an evolution of the platform, incorporating additional terrain-adaptive capabilities and specific components, including TrinaTracker’s patented Spherical Bearing.

The solution is complemented by TTopo, TrinaTracker’s topographic analysis tool, which evaluates terrain conditions, system tolerances and cut-and-fill requirements to help define the most suitable configuration for each project. By enabling different technical alternatives to be assessed from the early stages of development, TTopo supports better-informed engineering decisions based on the specific characteristics of each site.

Together, these capabilities can reduce earthworks and civil intervention, optimise construction costs and overall balance-of-system requirements, and shorten project schedules, helping mitigate the environmental and economic impact associated with developing solar plants on challenging terrain.

Felipe Tukamoto, Product Manager at TrinaTracker, explains: “Vanguard 1P Terrain+ expands the possibilities for developing solar projects on terrain that would traditionally require greater civil intervention. The benefit depends on the conditions of each project, but we have seen cases with reductions of up to 90% in earthworks. This can translate into lower construction costs and shorter timelines, reduced environmental impact, and greater flexibility in plant design.”

Responding to the needs of the Colombian market

TrinaTracker’s strong presence in Colombia is reflected in its leading position in the country’s solar tracker market, ranking first according to Wood Mackenzie’s Global Solar Tracker Market Share Report 2026. This position is supported by a combination of advanced tracker solutions and local service capabilities tailored to the needs of the Colombian market.

In a market where complex topographies can represent a significant challenge for solar development, Vanguard 1P Terrain+ provides a commercially validated terrain-following solution designed to address local engineering and construction requirements. Its growing application in the country further reflects the solution’s alignment with the needs of the Colombian solar market.

Santiago Ballester, Head of Sales at TrinaTracker LAC, says: “It is important to highlight that Vanguard 1P Terrain+ is not a completely new product, but rather an evolution of our Vanguard 1P platform, incorporating additional capabilities to adapt to more complex terrains. We already have signed projects in Colombia that include this solution, which demonstrates that it is a commercially validated technology aligned with the real needs of the market.”

Beyond addressing complex terrain conditions, the expansion of Vanguard 1P Terrain+ in Colombia reflects TrinaTracker’s broader commitment to supporting the country’s energy transition with efficient solutions adapted to local market needs. The focus is not only on overcoming engineering challenges, but also on maximising project performance and creating long-term value.

Santiago concludes: “At TrinaTracker, we believe that the energy transition requires innovation, efficiency and solutions adapted to the reality of each market. Our commitment is to drive the sustainable growth of solar energy in Colombia through technologies that maximise project performance and generate long-term value for our customers and society.”
